Refuge In Literacy UK

Support Us

We would be delighted to have authors link with us to support their local domestic violence refuges and donate signed copies of their books.

We are always thrilled to have new links to support our cause, and you can be a cheerleader for us, actively help and support us, lead us to people and organisations which can further our cause, or sponsor us. We are very flexible and appreciate any support and help at all.

For domestic violence refuges wishing to find out more about the literacy reading prompt resources, please contact us by email in the first instance.

For training family practitioners, agencies, and organisations, please contact by email in the first instance.

For authors, individuals, or publishers wishing to donate books, please contact us by email in the first instance. We can direct you to your local domestic violence refuges for you to donate directly (and perhaps build up a relationship with them), or advise you on how to donate signed copies of your books.

How donations will be used will be reviewed regularly to ensure we are being responsive to the requirements of those who most need our support. The reading prompts are an element intrinsic to Refuge In Literacy UK, so working with domestic violence refuges across the UK is important to us. In the first instance, donations will be used in the following ways:

  1. Administration costs such as postage to enable us to get donated books from publishers to refuges.
  2. Travel expenses enabling INSET on how to use the reading prompts in domestic violence refuges in the UK, delivered by working with one of our board directors.

Refuge In Literacy UK aims to offer training to key workers, family practitioners, and other agencies working with domestic violence and organisations for free. We want to develop literacy confidence and knowledge so that families in refuge can harness the reading skills used in strategies in specific year groups in school. We want to ensure education isn't dormant when children are victims of domestic violence and are housed in refuges. We also want to be in a position to donate money to refuges for stimulating artefacts, such as posters, pictures, or specific equipment to enrich children's lives.
